Basil Lepper, who entered the school in 1910, was a keen athlete. During his time at UTS, he was a noted member of the hockey, rowing, and football teams, and after leaving was a member of the Aura Lee Hockey Club, and the Argonaut Rowing Club. He was on the Toronto Argonauts Rugby-Football Team, and played in their Grey Cup-winning 1914 season. After a brief stint working for the Western Insurance Company, he enlisted in 1915, joining the Thirty-Fourth Battery of the Canadian Field Artillery. He went overseas in December 1915 and was wounded in June 1916. Following his leave and recovery, he trained for a commission in the artillery, and returned to France as lieutenant in the Fifty-Fifth Battery. He was killed at Cambrai and buried in Sains-les-Marquion British Cemetery.
